As from today The Danish Competition Authority and Elsam have appointed Deloitte as the trustee of Elsam's sale of 600 MW virtual capacity. Deloitte has previously handled similar tasks on behalf of the competition authorities as the trustee of the sale of virtual capacity of electricity companies.

In connection with the merger with Nesa, Elsam had to surrender a number of undertakings. One of the commitments relates to the sale of 600 MW virtual capacity. Buyers can bid for the right to use capacity for a certain period via auctions (3 months, 12 months and 36 months). The task of the trustee is to inspect that Elsam fulfils its obligations regarding the sale of 600 MW virtual capacity.

There has been a number of qualified candidates for the task as trustee. Elsam has received 7 offers in total from Danish as well as Scandinavian and international parties. Even though there have been a lot of attractive offers, The Danish Competition Authority and Elsam have agreed that Deloitte will be the most suitable choice for handling the task as a trustee.

The competences included in the consortium which Deloitte has selected for the task were among the reasons for choosing Deloitte as the trustee. The Scandinavian power exchange Nord Pool is also part of the consortium.
